Abstract
In the laboratory conditions experiments in measuring of emissions of benzo[a]pyrene in various temperature intervals and concentrations in flue gas, during carbonization (up to 850 °С) of binder pitch of coal tar and petrochemical origin as well as mixture of the same with the calcined petroleum and pitch coke have been made. Investigated pitch and coke mixtures are in their composition close to anode mass applied in aluminium production. It is confirmed by the experi- ments that at carbonization of petroleum cracking pitch (Т = 100 °С) total emission of benzo[a]pyrene is much higher than at carbonization of electrode pitch (Т = 89 °С) and other kinds pitch of coal tar origin. In most of the experiments emission of benzo[a]pyrene at carbonization of pitch and coke mixtures is appreciably lower than at carbonization of separate binder pitches. It was for the first time ascertained that in most environmentally dangerous high temperature carbonization condition mixture based on pitch coke emit noticeably less benzo[a]pyrene than based on petroleum coke.
