At present, more and more economists agree that the existing economic development model does not fit into the framework of the concept of sustainable development, which has been widely recognized throughout the world and formed the basis for the strategic development documents of many states. Subsequently, on the basis of the basic postulates of sustainable development, a new concept was formed - the concept of a green economy, which was aimed at improving the quality of life of the world's population while minimizing the depletion of natural resources and preserving nature for future generations. Gradually, this led to the fact that information on the green economy began to accumulate and undergo a comprehensive analysis, as a result of which the methodological basis of the green economy crystallized. Discussions about the green economy methodology continue to this day. This article gives an author’s vision regarding methodological approaches to understanding the essence of the green economy. Based on the analyzed literature and our own conclusions, several approaches of the methodology are distinguished, each of which is characterized in terms of the main essence of the content, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. In addition to the identified methodological approaches, the article raises the issue of developing a categorical-conceptual apparatus of the green economy, conducts a literary analysis to identify a universal interpretation of the term "green economy".
