Abstract

Urban renovation has become one of the most discussed topics in Russia and abroad in recent years. Specialists in various fields develop scenarios for the implementation of renovation processes that can satisfy all parties involved in it. Based on the definition, renovation is the process of improving the quality of building without violating the historical appearance of the city. But does it work in practice? After all, the most common method of renovation is the complete resettlement of residents and the demolition of buildings. This scenario was followed by the United States and now Russia, Moscow in particular. This article discusses methods of built-up areas development and examples of implementation both in Russia and abroad. This study will help municipalities and developers take a fresh look at the problem of building renovation and raise the issue of the social component of large-scale resettlement processes in the built-up areas development.
