Translated title of the contribution: Self-depreciation in family communication: axiologeme or stereotype?

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

The article concentrates on the phenomenon of self-depreciation - that is, on hypertrophied diminution, belittling oneself. In the introduction, based on Prof. L. A. Shkatova’s onomasiological methodology for the terms analysis, the author proposes an explanation of the term “self-depreciation”, and a step-by-step proof for its existence. The main part of the paper aims at studying self-depreciation from two points of view: as a speech stereotype and as an axiological unit. Within the first aspect, typical speech markers and formulas for the self-depreciation are distinguished found in informal (and, in particular, in family) communication. The second aspect matches self-depreciation in initial and response replicas to the Russian speech ideal in the symmetric communication. The results of the article generally prove L. A. Shkatova’s idea on the narrowness of family communicative stereotypes, but state the axiological importance of self-depreciation in the Russians’ everyday speech.
