Abstract
The article is devoted to the actualization of Russian traditional cultural values and the infl uence this process had on the formation of a new Soviet cultural identity during the World War II (Great Patriotic War) and in the prewar years. The problem of transformation of the Russian traditional values during the military confrontation is analyzed. The role of traditional symbols of culture as well as cultural innovation in building the Soviet cultural identity is examined.
