The study considers the reflection of poetry development literary theories in the poetic texts of “The Lord of the Rings” by J. R. R. Tolkien. While writing the poetry of Middle-earth the author relies on contemporary perceptions of literary studies but also deviates from them. The author reveals that anachronisms in Tolkien’s historical and literary concept are caused by the character of his historical and esthetic views.
