This research sets out to clarify the interactions between religion and the major types of development including social, political, and economic developments, by focusing on Islam. The research, firstly, analyses the relation of religion and economic development, with an appeal to the fundamental principles of the Islamic economy during the analysis of two models for the connection between Islam and the economy: (I) Islam and economic growth in Malaysia, and (II) Turkey and economic progress. Secondly, the research examines the connection between religion and social development: the role of religion in the development of society is considered in the context of the social task of poverty reduction. The role of religion as an intermediary between the social and moral development of society and the importance of studying Islamic ethical doctrine for society are defended. Thirdly, the research clarifies the relation between religion and political development, by explaining how the West could reach democracy trough secularization process, and by assessment of the available challenges between Islam and democracy through the analysis of the Islamic political structure. The results approved that religious instructions (included Islam) are not in conflict with development and somehow, could have positive effects on specific development sectors. The negative effects of religion appear when religious leaders misinterpret the concepts of religion or abuse the name of religion in pursuit of power.
