Abstract

Digitalization has become an important conceptual basis for the national strategy of socio-economic development in Russia. Therefore, in labour market research, considerable attention is paid to the formation of special human capital associated with information and computer technologies. The purpose of this article is to study the impact of Internet and the availability of individual computer skills on the wages over the past ten years. The research method is based on analysis of regression coefficients in Mincer-type equations, where the explanatory variables include individual data on the presence of experience of regular use of the Internet for work and the presence of special professional competencies in the field of computer and information technologies. The results show that from 2011 to 2020, digital human capital has a positive effect on earnings and leads to a steady, significant increase in individual income over the entire period considered. Over time, the role of Internet experience for work is diminishing for all professions. Special digital competencies are bringing increasing returns by 2020. Regional variables of digitalization also have a significant positive effect on earnings, increasing income within 2-3%, all other things being equal. The research results can be used to support national plans for the development of human capital amidst accelerated digitalization.
