POWER GRID INFRASTRUCTURE MODERNIZATION BY THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SMART GRID TECHNOLOGIES: chapter in book

Abstract

Nowadays, power grid companies are highly interested in projects involving Smart Grid technologies. Alongside this, it is necessary to implement only those elements of the Smart Grid technological basis that provide maximal techno-economic effect. In this regard, thorough analysis of characteristic features of a certain power grid infrastructure should be carried out.
Through the example of JSC “Bashkirian Power Grid Company” (BRGC) grids in Ufa, specialists of JSC “BPGC” performed the study of a typical condition of city grids in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and identified their system problems.
It was found that it is essential to perform comprehensive modernization of grids to reach the leading countries' level of quality and reliability in Russia and the CIS. The study revealed that the elements of Smart Grid technological basis are relevant for the grids of these countries.
The paper gives an account of the approach worked out by JSC “BPGC” specialists to project the realization of Ufa power grid infrastructure comprehensive modernization with implementation of Smart Grid technologies.
