The article presents a brief analysis of the causes of occupational injuries based on the reports of the International Labor Organization and the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation. The analysis has shown the need to develop a universal risk assessment methodology capable to predict critical hazardous workplaces and production operations. The article considers the main risk-oriented approaches used to analyze injuries and maintain health at work. It describes the process of risk management in the organization based on the recommendations of the ILO. The author proposes a method for ranking the frequency and severity of the implemented hazardous situations which allows to estimate the risk of occupational traumatism. Specific recommendations have been given on the sequence of occupational safety measures.
