Resumen

The author addresses the question of the role a university archaeological museum can play as a unique resource integrated into the process of education and demonstrating how the information can be extracted from artifacts, contexts and situations. Special consideration is given to the experience of organizing within a restricted museum area an exhibition with alarge number of artifacts coming from the territory of the Ural Mountains. The primary goal of the exhibition creators was to explicitly visualize the pre-written history of the region as a history of information breakthroughs, to demonstrate the uniqueness of the north of West Siberia among the hunting-gathering cultures of Northern Eurasia, to show the variety of forms of social adaptation in prehistory.
