The article shows the historical study of the concept of "human capital". The author notes that the problem of the development of human capital has deep roots in the history of social and philosophical thought. Focuses on the philosophical writings of thinkers of Antiquity, Modern Times, which influenced the formation of the content of the concept of "human capital". The further development of the theory of human capital was reflected in the writings of economist researchers of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Scientific studies of the classics of world economic thought have become the basis for the formation of the theory of human capital. The idea that human capital throughout its life not only acquires knowledge but also wears out, both physically and morally, is substantiated. The knowledge of the individual is obsolete; economically, the value of human capital changes in the process of being. The author comes to the conclusion that the concept of "human capital" is gradually acquiring the status of a general scientific concept.
