The reform of the school system should be carried out in close connection with the needs and interests of educational communities. Parents as one of such communities in recent years are increasingly involved in solving the problems of schooleducation. Parents' satisfaction with various aspects of their children's education can serve as an indicator of the effective educational policy. The article presents an attempt to study the attitude of parents to the conditions of educational activity of their children. The empirical basis of the paper is provided by the results of the mass survey of the Yekaterinburg schoolchildren’s parents (2019, n = 7281).Using a two-stage cluster analysis on the criterion of parents' satisfaction with the conditions of educational activity of their children at school, an empirical typology of parents was formed. Two clusters of parents were identified: those assessing the conditions of children's education in school «rather positively» (61.9%) and «rather negatively» (38.1%).The correlation analysis revealed the absence of fundamental differences in the socio-demographic characteristics of parents and their assessment of the key problem of school education (decrease in motivation of educational activities). The cluster of «dissatisfied» parents is dissatisfied with almost all aspects of their children's education, but the main problem is the «human relations» in school. There are different clusters of «positive» and «negative» parents in assessing what they lack to implement effective assistance to the school and their child in it. «Dissatisfied» parents do not have enough information about the life of the school, legal/economic and other knowledge necessary for implementing civic activity. Representatives of «positive» parents see only a lack of time and personal activity as an obstacle to the implementation of assistance to the school. It is concluded that the resulting typology of parents can and should be the basis for the development of strategies in working with the parent community of different levels of government. A differentiated dialogue between education managers and parents of different types will not only solve current problems but will also contribute to the development of school education.
