he article discusses problems associated with inventory management in subsidiary enterprises of metallurgical holding companies and the toolkit of inventory management in individual enterprises used within value-based methods of management. The article describes specific features of logistics systems in subsidiary enterprises of metallurgical holding companies that appeared as a result of the transformation of large metallurgical enterprises into holding companies and influenced inventory management. It is also proved that for building a system of inventory management it is necessary to develop methods which are based on the logistics approach and take into account modern conditions of their functioning, technological and economic dependence of holding enterprises as well as the technological features of production. The article offers an overview of various approaches to inventory management and shows the applicability in the metallurgical industry. The article also describes methods of rationing factory stocks the introduction of which is connected with Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERP) in place at metallurgical enterprises. An algorithm of the rationing system of factory stocks is proposed that builds upon value-based management. The applicability of results in a subsidiary enterprise (mechanical repair unit of the open joint-stock company Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works) and their impact on the efficiency of management through the system of budgeting is shown.
