Resumen

The modern industrial expansion on Taimyr peninsula together with the quickly changing environmental conditions and great anthropogenic pressure have caused observable disruption both on some arctic and sub arctic tundra ecosystems and on the animal kingdom population level. Exploration subject is taimyr population of wild reindeer (Rangifer tarandus L.). Problem is to figure out the common natural phenomena of wild reindeer migration ways across East Taimyer, the main portion of population area. Within the period of 1984-2000, 500 hrs of ground and 600 hrs of aerial survey have been conducted. Migration is characterized by the following steps. Both in the spring and in the fall the beginning of migration is charaterized by the appearance of the vanguard groups or reindeer movement traces. The peak is charaterized by massive group movement, and finishes when last groups have gone and no traces of reindeer movement remain. Some declines are possible, for example, after the beginning – less intensive movement is followed by the total interruption which is done by a return migration. Then the process begins again. A beginning of the movement is marked by large herds and is very intensive. The return migration is marked by tiny groups. Wild reindeer seasonal migration is not conducted as an entire stream rather by definite «migration branches» (east, central, west). Some phenomenon of taimyr population is occurrence of local (elementary, metapopulations) with area, migrations, pastures, reproduction periods of their own). It is some wonderful specimen of evolutionary achievements. Pulse migration beginning times and the return migration movement have been influenced by climate factors as a common trend of Arctic species that are adapted to extreme environment which can have dramatic and cascading effects on an ecosystem’s state and function. The exploration results are used for the improvement of the management of East Taimyr wild reindeer population with the ultimate goal of maintaining biodiversity and are responding to outer territorial challenges, essential in order to develop effective conservation and adaptation strategies.
