URFU Institute of Humanities and Arts is comprised of 5 faculties:

  • Faculty of Philology.
  • Faculty of History.
  • Faculty of Journalism.
  • Faculty of Art History and Cultural Studies.
  • Faculty of Education in the Humanities for Engineering and Technology Students.

The Institute is the leading research and educational center in the sphere of humanities in the Urals and Western Siberia. The institute staff consists of renowned scholars from various fields: Linguistics, Russian Language and Literature, History of Russia, Mass Media, Cultural Studies and History of Arts, Anthropology, Design and Tourism.  

The extensive international cooperation promotes high-level, interdisciplinary research at the IHA.  The Institute participates in the students exchange programs with the universities of France, United Kingdom, Germany, Hungary and Poland. The IHA also provides short- and mid-term employment for the researchers from abroad, in order to increase the international research cooperation.

The Institute has cutting-edge research infrastructure including 6 research laboratories, the International Center of Russian History, and the Center of Contemporary Culture.  In addition, the IHA publishes 4 research journals. The research is focused upon various aspects of Russian culture, history and language. 

Students are provided with the opportunities to conduct research and receive practical experience through participating in scientific expeditions. There are archaeological, toponymic, folklore and ethnographic expeditions, which take place in the Urals, Siberia and Crimea. The IHA offers doctoral programs in the fields of studying both Russian historical heritage, and present-day cultural processes.

The graduates of the IHA are working in research, education, public institutions, and media. However, many of them are also successfully running business or participating in the non-profit sector.
