The authors point out the contradiction between the needs of society in engineering training and lack of desire to become engineers of high school graduates. Working towards professional orientation can be more effective because of properly arranged tours to industrial enterprises. In Yekaterinburg there is a demand for professionally focused excursions. However, there is a shortage in offers of professionally focused excursions. The authors compare the thematic training excursion and professionally focused excursion on a number of criteria. In this case, the target audience is an important criterion. The target audience of thematic tours is high school students who teach certain academic disciplines. The target audience of professionally focused excursion is high school students who demonstrate the selective attitude to a particular professional field. The authors draw attention to speeches of guides and following of safety standards at production. The authors formulate requirements for professionally focused excursions and guides: high skills in engineering; knowledge of technology of tourist services and communication technologies; ability to show objects; ability to explain complex processes for high school students; existence of contacts with employees of the manufacturing enterprises. The authors demonstrate an economic feasibility of professionally focused excursions’ organization.
