Resumo
The book by professor A. Gadzhiyev, rector of Baku Slavic University, is reviewed. Eminent Azerbaijan researcher turned to the study of a peculiar ethnic group - the Turkish-speaking Greek Christians. A. Gadzhiyev analyses ethnic features of Urums, their religious customs and traditions in details. A significant part of the book is the publication of folklore works. The author argues that Urum folklore, despite presenting of the Greek substrate, fully reflects the Turkic traditions and motifs. A. Gadzhiyev’s study is assessed as a significant contribution to the study of history and folklore of Urums as an ethnic group.
