The present study elucidates the importance of development of technical means for explosives detection. We have designed a installation to study nitro explosives (HE) sensors based on the analysis of known solutions. The basis of designed installation is the steady-state luminescence quenching effect observed in some organic compounds-sensors under the explosive vapors action. A feature of this installation is the use of purposely synthesized new organic materials as the sensors. Luminescent properties of these substances (luminescence excitation and luminescence spectra and decay kinetics as well) needed in preliminary study and was the basis for selection of photoluminescence excitation source and for photodetector of designed installation. The paper describes the block diagram of installation with his manual, rationale for selection of optical components and the interaction of functional blocks and elements. The performance checking of actual prototype of installation has shown that its sensitivity to vapors of test nitro compound is not worse than 10-14 g/cm3.
