Аннотация

Chromium (Cr) mining and the tannery industry can severely damage land, contaminate water, and may pose a human health hazard. Different physical and chemical methods were implemented to overcome these problems; however, biological methods were found to be much safer and more environmentally friendly to help restore and reclaim Cr contaminated brown fields with minimum human effort. Phytoremediation has proven its efficiency in decontamination of Cr polluted sites mainly by phytostabilization and phytoextraction using Cr accumulator/hyperaccumulators plants. In this chapter, two case studies for the phytomanagement of the tannery industry and chromite-asbestos minewaste are briefly explained using amendments such as tannery sludge, farmyard manure, and chicken manure as a nutrient supplement.
