The article discusses the possibility of using latent semantic analysis to the study of text comprehension. The emphasis is on a discussion of LSA as a potential replacement for propositional analysis. We describe a series of experiments, repeating Thorndyke’s classic text understanding experiments, but with the use of LSA. The results are evaluated in terms of consistency with the original Thorndyke’s study. The conclusion is drawn that it is possible to use LSA measures as a quantitative ones of a text comprehension.
