The article deals with the characteristics of threshing formed by a portion harvester of bread rolls with a thresher of a combine harvester. The processes of formation of a portion roll and its threshing are investigated in the framework of a separate method of harvesting grain crops. The basic requirements for the bread roll are formulated. It is established that the parameters of the roll, affecting the quality of threshing, largely depend on the characteristics of the roller conveyor, especially on its length. The definition of the length of the conveyor portion header. This term refers to the distance occupied by the conveyor belt from the cutting machine to the discharge window. The paper presents a number of laws that allow to establish the relationship between the concentration of the roll and the bearing capacity of the stubble, to establish the optimal «power» of the roll and the throughput of the threshing machine of the combine when threshing rolls. An explanation of the concept of «power» roll. The data on straw content and clogging of the grain stand for the conditions of the steppe zone with insufficient level of soil moisture and statistical characteristics of their influence on the capacity of the threshing machine at different yields are reflected. Studies on the establishment of optimal values of the length of the conveyor portion header, taking into account the parameters and modes of its operation and the requirements for the roll. The main factors influencing the choice of the conveyor length were its speed modes and the required «power» of the roll with different indicators of productivity.
