摘要

The article considers the experience of using electronic educational resource when teaching academic writing to graduate science students at Ural Federal University. It is known that the acquisition of academic writing skills for communication in a foreign language is an important part of professional competence. Given the high requirements for proficiency in academic writing and an inadequate number of in-class and self -study hours to develop these skills, teachers have to look for and apply new technologies to teaching. E -Learning can be used as a sound alternative. The use of electronic educational resource allows to intensify and optimize teaching process, increasing learner autonomy. The paper is a case study of one semester experience of online teaching academic writing class to graduate science university students in the academic yeas 2015-2016 and 2016-2017. The research had two stages. On the first stage they assessed the level of formation of writing skills of students. The second stage was the analysis of the progress of writing skills after teaching the students using electronic education resourse. The researchers analyzed the results of diagnostic tests as well as those of essays using specific criteria (e.g. content relevance, essay and paragraph organization: topic /supporting sentences, cohesive devices) that made it possible to identify both positive and negative aspects of the electronic resource application.
