The authors analyze research experience of professional culture of journalists, systematically presented in the publications of representatives of Russian and Chinese schools of journalism. Since the digital revolution has predetermined not only the qualitative change of journalism as a social institution, but also the transformation of a number of vectors of research practice, the article proves that the dominant of professional culture makes it possible to focus on aspects that in previous years were not taken into account or considered secondary. The substantial analysis, according to the authors, also testifi es that the process of formation and development of professional culture of journalists of Russia and China cannot be considered in isolation from historical traditions and representations (including the ones in mass consciousness) about essence of mass media effi ciency.
