Purpose.The relevance of the proposed topic is related to the implementation of a large-scale program of technical re-equipment of industrial production, which involves the preservation, consolidation and development of qualified, professional mobile staff. The article analyzes the process of forming the professionalism of engineering personnel, which allows the universities and personnel services of enterprises to adjust the existing programs for the preparation, development, adaptation and consolidation of literate specialists. The subject of analysis is the professionalism of engineering personnel at the enterprises of the Urals. The author aims to reveal the concept of professionalism of engineering personnel by defining the main stages of the professional development of a specialist. Methodology. The basis of the research is formed by such sociological methods as questioning, interviewing and content analysis of biographical information, as well as methods of analysis, systematization and statistical calculation of the data. Results. The results of the work consist in the fact that the author singled out the components of the professionalism of engineering personnel, and also characterize the process of professional formation of the Ural engineers. Practical implications. It is assumed that the results of the conducted research can be used, first of all, in programs of effective personnel management with the possibility of using social technologies. The results obtained during the sociological surveys were presented in the “Summary Information Report” and proposed to the management of a number of industrial enterprises. Positive feedback was received on the need to apply research results in the work of HR services in the enterprise.
